A blast from the past & something new

Tonight i decided to scan some negs i have, some are quite new as they are from my Bronica S2a, and some were some old 35mm negs from about 15-17 years ago.  My big problem is i dont actually have a scanner, but thanks to my tablet and my smartphone i was able to scan them pretty successfully.
How did i do it? i used an app on my tablet, and an app on my phone.
On my Android tablet i have an app called lightbox, and it does exactly that, it uses the backlight on the  tablet screen with nothing else to create a modern version of an old school light box, this simply means you can put the negative on the tablet and look at the neg.   On my Android powered phone, i have an app called Helmut Film Scanner, this uses the camera on the phone to 'scan' the image, then you can make adjustments, then do a final scan and save the image.
After a little experimentation, i found to get the best results i used 2 soup cans to elevate the negs up off the surface of the tablet to stop the acutal LED's of the backlight being visible through the negs.

As you can see from the above negs, its actually not a bad little setup to use, it means i can scan 120 negs,  pretty easily. The neg of the Dunedin Railway station is acutally the first useable frame i took with my Bronica, so im pretty stoked it came up so well.
The negs below are all 35mm frames taken between 1998 and 2004, and were taken on a variety of film stocks from good ol Kodak gold 400 to Acupan 800,  the results are not too bad at all, so i think i will have to dig out some more negs and keep scanning.

Helmut & Lightbox apps are available on the Google play store and are even better, both FREE!!!!
The Helmut app is also super compatible with the Lomography 35mm Film Scanner deck.

Its been ages

its been ages since ive posted anything here because other projects have gotten in the way of my photography.
Although ive been pretty busy with work,  sports and other things i have still managed to find time to go and take some photos around Dunedin city where i live.
Ive got a couple of little project ideas that i am developing, and hopefully as i find the time to get posts up and done i will get them up as i get the images processed.
I have a couple 'new cameras' in the bag now, i have recently been given a couple of 110 cameras, i now have a Minolta 110 SLR zoom camera, and an Agfa 110 camera with Agfa flash in working condition.
I have also been lucky enough to find some good dated 110 film, and most importantly, a lab to process them as well, so hopefully part of my next series of projects will be one shot entirely on 110 film,

Im sitting here trying to sort out pictures to album..  no im not putting digital albums onto flikr, photobucket or facebook, but rather going 'old school' and putting printed pictures into a physical album.
Personally, i am quite old school when it comes to albums, i try not to use albums that have clear pockets for one size picture in a set layout, i prefer to use plain old style black page albums that require mounts to stick pictures to the pages,  this allows bigger prints and i can lay them out how i want.
I love the freedom of blank page albums, but it also makes them harder to put together, as with freedom to use different print sizes, it makes selecting images tougher as you have to think about will it be a small print or a larger print.

Unfortunately my handwriting isnt too great or i would use a silver pen to write captions and things, but then depending on the album it ruins the look of them, and this album would be ruined by captions.
This particular album i have been working on for a couple of years, yes a couple of years, but  i am pretty fussy when it comes to selecting images to album, some of the pics i have printed a few different times with varying degrees of result.

I might be finished with this album in another 12 months hahaha...
